Spring Break Workshops offer unique, limited experiences similar to our traditional paid single-session educational programs designed to introduce practical skills, techniques, and workflows of leading Technology, Entertainment, and Media industries. Student learning is collaborative, hands-on, and project-based, providing them full creative control of their own exploration, design, and project development.

A 1/2-hour lunch break is built into the schedule for students. Students are responsible for bringing their own lunch, beverages, and snacks. Also includes two 15-minute breaks.

Sound is a fundamental part of storytelling and helps determine the pace and energy of visual media. In this workshop, students will explore the audio production pipeline and work individually and collaboratively to create the sound and foley for a animation clip. They will record original audio, source audio samples, synthesize, layer sounds, add effects, mix, and assemble their audio production to create an entirely unique soundscape for their animation. They will leave with an exported video project.

2D Animation is the process of creating an illusion of movement for characters and objects in a two-dimensional world. In this workshop, students will practice this creative process by creating two-dimensional pixel art assets and using frame-by-frame animation techniques to bring them to life. They will incorporate color theory, shading, outlining, reference, and more! With each step of the creative process, students will evolve their static graphics into a uniquely-crafted sprite animation.

Stop motion is an animation filmmaking technique that uses still photos to simulate movement. In this workshop, students will practice this creative technique by creating a story, staging their subjects/characters, meticulously manipulating their small movements, and snapping pictures of each change using the Stop Motion Studio app on iPads. During the process, they will explore the vocabulary of animation, apply photography and animation techniques to achieve fluid motion, and edit their video using iMovie. Students will finalize the day by showcasing their completed stop motion projects to their peers and facilitators, celebrating their accomplishments and gaining some insight on future edits and improvements.

The word Photography literally means "drawing with light," so this workshop begins with the practice of taking pictures in a variety of pre-staged sets where different forms of light are incorporated. Students will work in small groups to capture a series of photographs at each staged set. During this process, they will operate DSLR cameras, learn how to properly frame subjects to get the desired shot, and practice fundamental photography techniques to benefit their image capture. Once their chosen images are captured and in place, they will use a photo editor to edit, color correct, enhance, and transform their photographs into a meaningful piece of art.
