MINECRAFT STEAM EXPLORER
AGES 7 - 12
Minecraft is more than just a top-selling PC game. It is an engaging environment where spatial thinking, problem solving, storytelling, mathematics, and visual arts merge creating a virtual classroom perfect for exploring STEAM concepts. In this camp, students implement the Engineering Design Process as they design, plan, and build multidimensional structures within the Minecraft world, including three-dimensional historical replicas, biological structures, story-driven machinima, and mini games. With each project, students will practice and hone research skills, work together as a team, and discover how Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics relates to them in the future. Students will develop the necessary skills for learning and growing in our technologically-advanced world.
OBJECTIVES (Camp Highlights)
Explore a standard 3D x/y/z coordinate navigation system
Implement the Engineering Design Process to improve the design, build, and test phases of project development
Apply abstract thinking, analysis, and problem-solving to effectively scale, position, and build structures within the Minecraft world
Synthesize research into interactive, educational Minecraft builds
Collaboratively review projects and provide constructive feedback for iteration
