Anyone can play a game, but it takes specialized knowledge and ambition to create them. In this virtual camp, students explore the fundamentals of designing and developing multidimensional video games and create an understanding of what it takes to build one from scratch. Students will use GameMaker Studio 2 to create an adventure game complete with custom sprite art, programmed behaviors and reactions, and fine-tuned gameplay mechanics. They will learn to streamline the game development process as they build, playtest and iterate their games, incorporating player rewards and challenges to balance gameplay along the way. Upon completion, students will better understand the work that goes into the games they play and the complex decision-making process that helps to make these games fun.
