About the Course

Getting started in Game Development can be difficult because there’s so many viable game engines to choose from. Where does one start? In this camp, students will be introduced to three of the most used engines in the industry: Godot, Unity and Unreal. They will learn the pros and cons of each of the engines while working on projects that showcase these attributes. Through hands-on projects, students will learn pivotal programming concepts such as functions, variables, and loop statements while also implementing core game design fundamentals such as level creation, mechanics, and player interaction. They will use a combination of traditional coding and visual based coding to broaden their programming skills. By experimenting with each game engine’s unique features, students will develop a versatile skill set and a deeper understanding of what it takes to bring game ideas to life.

Objectives

  • Explore Godot, Unity, and Unreal and evaluate the strengths and limitations of each game engine

  • Identify and Apply core programming concepts (functions, variables, and loop statements) to enhance game mechanics and functionality

  • Develop games using a blend of traditional coding and visual-based scripting to broaden programming skill sets
