Inspired by the classic mobile game Doodle Jump, students will learn how to build their own vertical-scrolling platformer. The session begins with a playful exploration of how platformer games work (jumping, gravity, and movement) before diving into hands-on creation. They will explore the Gamemaker Studio interface and build an understanding of how rooms, objects and sprites work. They will practice using GML Visual blocks for programming, design the gameplay mechanics, customize the art of the game, and experiment with fun features like bouncing platforms and simple obstacles. They will gain confidence in using GameMaker's interface and tools, allowing them to understand the capabilities and limitations of the game engine while being creative with their projects.

Learning Objectives
Create gameplay systems such as character movement, gravity, and platforms that players can jump between Design simple sprites for characters and platforms, learning how visual assets bring personality to a game. Playtest and Iterate game projects to improce functionality and player satisfaction.
